"I loved you, so I drew these tides of men into my hands
and wrote my will across the sky in stars
To gain you Freedom, the seven-pillared worthy house,
that your eyes might be shining for me
When I came."
(from The Seven Pillars of Wisdom, 1926, dedication)
Other!Lawrence: TE Lawerence, illegitimate son of Sir Thomas Chapman. An impeccably intelligent young man for his entire life, Lawrence took a special interest in the Arab Revolt during the First World War. He became close friends with one Prince Feisal, son of the King of Mecca, Hussein. Along with Feisal, the 'Arab Army', as Lawrence preferred to call it, took Akaba and many Turkish prisoners. It was at this time which he began to refer to the Arabs as 'we' and the British, his own 'people', as 'you'.
Impressed, the British Military leader, Allenby, granted Lawrence the title of General and promised the Arabs, under the Sykes-Pico agreement, an independent Arabia if they successfully defeated the Turks. Lawrence, of course, knew that their failure was nothing short of impossible.
As predicted, the Arabian army of united tribes from all over the nation kept the Turks at bay for the duration of the war and made many great gains in the British Army's name. But this success did not come without a price - during an attempt to pose as a genuine Arab, Lawrence was captured by the Turkish forces and subjected to countless days of beatings and sodomy. Among his torturers were the Turkish leader and his loyal subjects. Lawrence never fully recovered from the ordeal. He became a little crueler and a little colder. His lover - young though he may have been - was dead. Even so, he stayed with the Arabs throughout the war. He took on the title of Lawrence of Arabia, and when the was was over, accompanied Feisal to the Paris Peace Conference.
This, however, is where history quite literally changes for the entire world. Rather than going back on their promises, the British fullfilled their promises and the Arabs, along with Lawrence, returned to a free Arabia. He continued his stay with 'his' people, no longer disillusioned or worried about the British, but still bearing scars from his treatment at the hands of the Turks.
Milli!Lawrence: Lawrence's life occurs completely as it does for Other!Lawrence right up until the Paris Peace Conference. The British go back on their promise to unite Arabia and instead quarter up the whole of the Arabic nations, dividiing it between several of the European powers. Lawrence, disillusioned and disappointed in democracy as a whole, disappeared into a life of solitude soon after the Peace Treaty occured. He is unfortunately bitter about government as a reprecussion of such disappointing events.
TE Lawrence is from Lawrence of Arabia, and is the property of David Lean. He appears here solely for the purpose of role-playing in , from which no profit whatsoever is being made.
